In 2018 Garrett + Moulton Productions presented Stabat Mater and Mad Brass, an evening of two world premieres featuring the company's five soloists and an 18-person movement choir in four performances at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco. Together, the two premieres traversed a vivid visual, musical and theatrical landscape of both the sacred and profane.
Set to Italian baroque composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s soaring work of the same name, Stabat Mater was an intimately reflective work that underscored the inner spirit. In contrast, Mad Brass propelled the 23 performers through an environment of unbound joy that included visual elements designed by Moulton and the ecstatic, adrenaline-fueled music of Fanfare Ciocarlia, a 12-piece Romanian Roma brass band.
